MOUNT LOKON
TREKKING

Mount Lokon,
together with Mount Empung, is a twin volcano
(2.2 km apart) in the northern Sulawesi,
Indonesia. Both raises above the Tondano plain
and are among active volcanoes of Sulawesi.
Mount Lokon has a flat and craterless top.

Mount Lokon is one
of the active volcanos in North Sulawesi,
located in the middle of Tomohon city in North
Sulawesi. The mountain with 1,580 meters high
has a crater lake and beautiful scenery
surround. The perfect time to start walking from
Kakaskasen is 7 am, when the morning is still
cool. As additional, the trekking spend about 45
minutes. Beside Lokon, there is Mount Mahawu
(1311 m).

Volcanoes Lokon
(1.580 m) and Mahawu (1.311), both have crater
of considerable beauty, duck-egg blue and
smoking. Lokon is usually considered to be the
more beautiful of the two and casual walk should
be made for the climbers in reasonable
condition. The steaming crater lies 600 m below
the peak of the mountain. The lake is about 60 m
deep, crusted with yellow sulphur. The best time
to start walking from Kakaskasen is 7 am,
arriving at the crater while the morning is
still cool and sun has just filled the crater.

Lokon and Gunung Mahawu in Kakaskasen III,
Tomohon.
