MOUNT EBULOBO
TREKKING

The Pacific Ring of
Fire is an area of frequent earthquakes and
volcanic eruptions encircling the basin of the
Pacific Ocean. In a 40,000 km horseshoe shape,
it is associated with a nearly continuous series
of oceanic trenches, volcanic arcs, and volcanic
belts and/or plate movements. The Ring of Fire
has 452 volcanoes and is home to over 75% of the
world's active and dormant volcanoes. It is
sometimes called the Circum-Pacific belt or the
Circum-Pacific seismic belt.

Lesser Sunda Islands is part of Pacific Ring of
Fire. There are 22 volcanoes of them. The rows
of small islands in Lesser Sunda are the home of
various ethnic groups. Each has their own
cultural pattern, which suits with their
volcanic surroundings. The following program is
composed in such a way that the participants
will explore not only the volcanoes but to also
meet the people around them.

Mount Ebulobo (2.124
m) is a stratovolcano located in the
south-central part of the island of Flores. It
is one of the eversmoking volcanoe in Flores
which dominates the landscape of central Flores

Mount Ebulobo (
Grand Father Mountain in Local )is the most
active volcano in Flores islands, Whole day you
can see smoke come out from the volcano,
Mount Ebulobo is a
stratovolcano also known as Amburombu, Ebuloba
or Keo Peak which located at 8o48.5' S and
121o11'E. It belongs to Central Flores, Ngada
Regency.

The volcano has 8 former eruption sites as well
as 3 lava plugs. A crater which is laid on the
summit having a flat lava dome with 250 of
diameter. At the crater rim, 3 gorges are found.
To mount Ebulobo is usually taken from Boa Wae
(522 m) that can be reach by motor vehicle to
Nanga. The journey can be continued by walking
to Mulakoli ( the highest village).
Trek to Mount
Ebulobo
Start at 1 am from
your Hotel. First drive by car for about 1 hour
and then climb to discover the most active
volcano on Flores; it takes about 3.5 hours to
the top. Coordinate Location 8.808 S, 121.18 E,
belongs to stratovolcano type, first eruption
was in 1969. Enjoy your time at the top and
inform your friend by phone or sms that you are
at 2124 m!. Back down and take a rest in Boawae
before you continue to Bajawa.
