MAMASA - TORAJA
LAND TREKKING

MAMASA HIGHLAND
Situated in a valley 1200m up in the mountains above
Polewali,
the Mamasa region - also known as Western Toraja - occupies a
landscape of terraced hills with fairly easy hiking to numerous
traditional villages, most of which feature extraordinary
architecture and noticeably friendly people.
The area is welcoming without catering overly to mass tourism.
Adventurer are welcome, we can trek either three to four day hiking
trail from Tanah Toraja or Mamasa. No luxurious hotel available in
this town.
The isolated mountainous region of Mamasa
is often called Toraja's cousin due to the similarities in language,
beliefs, death rites, and traditional houses. The small sleepy town
of Mamasa is the region's only center that can offer places to stay
and eat. Its surroundings feature many cultural sites, hot water
springs (some of them too hot for comfort) and trekking in unspoiled
countryside.
